Board member opportunities available at B.C.'s health profession regulatory colleges
The Health Professions and Occupations Regulatory Oversight Office (HPOROO) is accepting applications for current and future board opportunities from both licensees of College of Complementary of Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC) and members of the public. The information below provides an overview on how interested candidates can participate in the board appointments process.
Board recruitment and assessment process
Under the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA), the HPOROO runs a recruitment and assessment process to recommend board members to B.C.’s six health profession regulatory colleges, which includes board recommendations for CCHPBC. The Oversight Office makes recommendations to the Minister of Health, who has the final decision-making authority to appoint board members.
The process for board appointments includes the submission of an application, followed by an assessment of candidates using a fair, merit-based process that looks at a combination of skills, and lived and professional experience. Other assessment criteria include personal attributes and knowledge relevant to board governance, such as experience in health profession regulation, public safety, anti-discrimination and Indigenous cultural safety, and decision-making experience within a legal mandate (for example, following the guiding principles of the HPOA).
How to apply for board member opportunities
Both licensees and members of the public are encouraged to apply for board member opportunities. If interested in applying, applicants will be asked to answer a short questionnaire, provide contact information, submit a detailed record of experience, and describe why they are interested in serving as a board member.
