To conclude the transitional Quality Assurance activities in 2026, the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC) has developed a Knowledge Check as a required activity.

The Knowledge Check has been designed to help licensees build a shared understanding of the College’s professional standards and how they inform day-to-day practice. The Knowledge Check encourages licensees to think about how the principles in the standards work together to guide professional judgement and ethical decision-making in support of safe, competent, and patient-centred care.

The Knowledge Check will be completed online through the licensee portal and will be open from October to November 30, 2026. It will be an open book activity, which allows licensees to refer to the professional standards and other College resources while completing it.

All Practising/Full and Non-practising licensees who became licensed on or before September 30, 2026, will be required to complete the Knowledge Check.

The Knowledge Check consists of 45 questions covering all nine professional standards and takes approximately one hour to complete. The questions evaluate a licensee’s knowledge of the professional standards and their ability to apply the standards when making decisions in practice-based scenarios.

The Knowledge Check, is not timed, meaning it can be completed over multiple sittings if needed. Once completed, licensees will receive confirmation of completing the Knowledge Check and feedback on any incorrect answers with links to relevant sections of the professional standards.

To prepare for the Knowledge Check, licensees must review the nine professional standards.  

Licensees can also prepare for the Knowledge Check by completing the Learning Series: Putting Standards into Practice. Each module in the series focuses on one or two of the professional standards and provides opportunities to: 

• build an understanding of the standards 
• apply the standards to realistic practice scenarios 
• identify areas where additional learning may be helpful 

Engaging with the learning series early gives licensees time to review College resources, consult College Practice Advisors, and discuss questions with colleagues before completing the Knowledge Check.

The Knowledge Check is a required activity in 2026 for all licensees, but there is no passing score, and the results of the activity will not affect licensure with the College or licence renewal in 2027.

The College will review overall results to understand licensees’ application of the professional standards in practice and identify opportunities for continued learning. If a licensee does not complete the Knowledge Check by the November 30, 2026, deadline, or if the result is very low, they may be selected for a 2027 Quality Assurance Assessment conducted by a peer assessor.

A Quality Assurance Assessment provides an additional opportunity to support a licensee’s ability to meet the professional standards. If opportunities for improvement are identified during the assessment, learning and remediation activities will be provided to support ongoing professional development.
