In Memory of Siem Te’ta-in (Shane Pointe), Coast Salish Knowledge Keeper
CCHPBC’s relationship with Siem Te’ta-in began in 2024, and his contributions supported our understanding and commitment to Reconciliation. Those who knew Siem Te’ta-in at CCHPBC remember him as an artist. His talent, perspective on community, and respect for the land is visible in our logo, the iconic Twin Sister peaks visible from Vancouver.
Siem Te’ta-in shared his knowledge generously, grounding his teachings in Coast Salish laws, protocols, and ways of knowing. He emphasized the importance of relationships and collectivity—principles that continue to guide our work.
Through his warmth and kindness, Siem Te’ta-in created open space for learning and reflection. He met people where they were, encouraging growth while holding true to the values of respect and connection. His teachings, including Nutsamaht— “we are one”—remain an enduring reminder of the importance of working together as a unified, multi-disciplinary body in service of the public. It is our honour and responsibility to carry his teachings forward.
We are grateful for the time we shared with him and for the knowledge he entrusted to us. He will be deeply missed.
