Renewals

Every year, registrants must renew their registration and any certifications they wish to maintain by the registration renewal deadline. The renewal application must be completed online through ROSS.

The 2024 registration renewal closed on Dec 31, 2023 at 4:30 PM PST.

Please check back in the fall of 2024 for information about the 2025 registration renewal. In the meantime, you can ensure that the following is up to date to ensure a smooth renewal process:

  • Current contact information. You can update this information directly on ROSS > “Personal Contact Information” tab.
  • Current place of practice information. You can update this information directly on ROSS > “Places of Practice” tab. If you are unable to find your place of practice in the drop-down menu under this tab, please click on the “Forms & Resources” tab > “Registration” and download the “Place of Practice Information” form. The completed form must be emailed to ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger.
  • Current Health Profession Corporation (HPC) information, if applicable. To update you HPC information on file, please email ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger.
  • Valid criminal record check (CRC). You can check the expiry date of your current CRC on ROSS > “Criminal Records” tab.
  • Valid insurance policy. Review the bylaws for insurance requirements. The policy must be uploaded on ROSS > “Professional Liability Insurance” tab.
  • Continuing education (CE) Review the Quality Assurance section here for CE requirements.  The current CE period ends on Dec 31, 2025. You can update your CE directly on ROSS > “Continuing education (CE)” tab > “Activities”.
  • Self and peer review Review the Quality Assurance section here for self and peer review requirements. requirements must be completed by the end of the CE period on Dec 31, 2025.
  • Valid life support training Review the Life Support Training section here for training requirements. You can upload your certificates on ROSS > “Qualifications” tab. While you might upload them under the “Continuing education (CE)” tab to claim CE hours, it is important to also upload them under the “Qualifications” tab.
  • Valid PharmaNet access evidence (for registrants holding Prescriptive Authority Certification only). You can upload your evidence on ROSS > “Qualifications” tab.

Reinstatement

Please note that you must not practise naturopathic medicine in BC, or use the restricted titles of “naturopath”, “naturopathic physician”, “naturopathic doctor”, “physician”, “doctor”, or the abbreviation “Dr.”, until you have provided the College with proof of insurance and have obtained full (practising) registration.

Requirements

Where it has been less than three (3) years since you were a full (practising) registrant, the below items are required as part of your application for reinstatement:

  1. A completed Registration Application and payment of the application fee ($289); (See Documentation for instructions on how to complete this form)
  2. Valid and current government issued photo ID with signature; (See Documentation for a list of accepted IDs)
  3. Proof of current professional indemnity insurance;
  4. Proof of valid and current Basic Life Support (HCP) or CPR for HCP with AED training; Refer to the Life Support Training section here to review the training requirements.
  5. If you intend to apply for any certifications with the College, you must provide proof of valid and current Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS) training; Refer to the Life Support Training section here to review the training requirements.
  6. A CRC Clearance Letter from the BC Government’s Criminal Records Review Program(CRRP); Refer to the Criminal Records section here for information on how to complete and submit a CRC
  7. Information about your activities since you were a full (practising) registrant with the College, specifically:
    1. A list of all continuing education that you have taken in the past 24 months, and evidence of at least 40 hours of course completion. This information, as well as supporting documentation, may be uploaded on ROSS > “Continuing Education (CE)” tab.
    2. Two letters of reference provided by individuals who can attest to your character and specifically your character in relation to your practice as an ND. References should not include family nor employees that an ND supervises. They should be professional colleagues who are familiar with your practice and who agree that the College may contact them regarding the reference.
    3. If you have practiced naturopathic medicine anywhere while you were not a full (practising) registrant of the College, provide a written summary of all your practice experience as a naturopathic doctor since that time.
    4. If applicable, a Certificate of Good Standing, or equivalent letter, from any and every naturopathic regulatory body where you have obtained licensure. (See Documentation for the certificate’s requirements)

When it has been more than three (3) years since you were a full (practising) registrant, in addition to the application materials set out above, the Registration Committee may require the successful completion of examination(s), upgrading program(s), or period(s) of supervised practice. After you have submitted the requested information, the Registration Committee will review the materials to determine whether any further requirements must be met to complete your application for registration.

Instructions for Submitting Applications

Applicants are encouraged to submit all of their materials in one package. Emailed documents should be submitted in PDF format.

All applicants are encouraged to review the Documentation page for a list of accepted supporting documents and instructions on how to complete certain application forms.

Applications can be emailed at ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger or mailed to the College.

Applicants should allow for sufficient time for all of their materials to be sent to the College.

Processing & Notification of Result

Applications will not be assessed and processed until a non-refundable application fee and all supporting documentation have been submitted.

Upon processing your application, the Registration team will contact you with an update or will notify you if additional items are needed.

Unless necessary, please refrain from contacting the College multiple times regarding your application/request as this increases the processing time.

Applicants for Full (Practising) Registration:

If the applicant has satisfied all of the application requirements, they will be provided with a letter confirming that they have met the preliminary requirements for registration with the College. The letter may be used to obtain professional liability insurance.

The applicant will then be provided with the Practising Registrant Registration form. This form must be returned to the College along with payment of the registration fees (prorated by month), and Evidence of professional liability insurance.

Applications are processed in the order they are received. This typically takes 4-6 weeks. Processing times might increase depending on the period and the volume of requests received. Please keep this in mind when planning your desired return to work date.

Certification Restoration

Please note that certifications are not restored automatically upon registration reinstatement. Applications to restore certifications must be submitted after a candidate has been granted registration with the the College. If you have been granted registration, please review the certification restoration requirements in the “Certification” section below.

Non-Practicing Registration

Requirements

Complete the Non-Practicing Registrant Registration form found on ROSS > “Forms & Resources” > “Registration” folder.

Instructions for Submitting Applications

  • Applicants must submit their completed application as a PDF document.
  • Applications can be emailed at ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger or mailed to the College.
  • Applicants should allow for sufficient time for all of their materials to be sent to the College.

Processing and Notification of Result

Applications and administrative requests are processed in the order they are received, typically taking 5-10 business days. Processing times might increase depending on the time of year and the volume of requests received. Once we have processed your application or request, our Registration team will be in touch with you to provide an update or request any additional information needed.

Please note that contacting the College multiple times regarding your application or request may increase the processing time, so we kindly ask that you refrain from doing so unless it is absolutely necessary.

Once your request has been processed, we will issue a confirmation letter to confirm your non-practicing registration.

Reimbursement of Registration Fees

Full registrants who become non-practicing registrants from July 1st to December 31st in a calendar year will be reimbursed 50% of the registration and certification renewal fee(s) paid, if the application for non-practicing registration for that period is delivered to the registrar on or before May 31st of that year.

Non-Practising Registration Renewal and Fee Exemption

Renewal

Non-practising registrants are required to renew their registration yearly during the registration renewal period. The non-practicing registration fees are equal to the full (practising) registration fees. If you are seeking an exemption from the fees, please follow the steps below before submitting your renewal application.

Fee Exemption

Fee exemption is available for registrants seeking non-practising registration for one of the following reasons:

  • Medical/disability leave
  • Parental leave
  • Retirement

Fee Exemption Application Requirements

  1. A completed Application for Non-Practising Fees Exemption found on ROSS > “Forms & Resources” tab > “Registration” folder.
  2. Evidence that you are seeking non-practicing registration for one of the above listed reasons. Review Documentation for specific requirements.

Instructions for Submitting your Application

Please submit your completed application as a PDF document.

Applications can be emailed to the College at ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger or mailed to the College.

Applicants must submit their fee exemption application 4-6 weeks ahead of the registration renewal deadline.

Processing and Notification of Result

We process all requests in the order they are received, and it usually takes 5-10 business days. However, during busy times of year, it may take longer. We will notify you when we have processed your application or request, and if we require additional information, we will contact you. Please refrain from contacting us multiple times regarding your application as this may delay the processing time.

If you have applied for a fee exemption and it is approved, our Registration team will provide you with further instructions on how to proceed past the payment section of your registration renewal application. However, if your fee exemption application is not approved, you will be asked to submit your renewal application and pay the non-practising registration fee in full.

Registration Reinstatement

If you are considering changing you class of registration, we encourage you to review the information in the above Reinstatement section.

Certifications

Registrants are required to hold College certifications in the following specified aspects of practice before practising them. Obtaining certification in these areas of practice require additional education and training. You can review requirements and training options in each of the certification sections below.

Effective January 2nd, 2024, the following certifications have been discontinued:

  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
  • Aesthetic Procedures – Microdermabrasion and chemical peels
  • Aesthetic Procedures – Photorejuvenation and high frequency electromagnetic treatments
  • Aesthetic Procedures – Facial mesotherapy, fat reduction and body contouring using injection or other devices.

Registrants should review the Naturopathic Doctors Scope of Practice: Standards, Limits and Conditions Document for current limits and conditions on these practices.

Apply for Certifications

Once a registrant has successfully fulfilled the certification requirements, they may apply for certification. Applications should be made within two years of completing the approved training course.

Submitting an Application:

To apply, submit a complete application package. The package must include the application form, proof of course completion, and any other supporting documentation listed in the specific certification sections below.

Application documents must be in PDF format (ideally combined in one document). The application package must be emailed to ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger.

Processing and Notification of Result

Registrants will be notified when the application fee has been posted in the Invoices & Receipts area of ROSS .

Complete applications will be reviewed by the College as they are received.

Processing typically takes 5-10 business days upon receipt of all materials and payment of the application fee. In times of increased business volumes such as the registration renewal period, a longer timeline for processing should be expected.

Application Forms:

Restore Certifications

Applications for restoration must be made within 3 years of previously holding a certification. Applications for restoration of certification held more than 3 years prior to the application date are referred for review by the appropriate committee.

Restoring Your Prescriptive Authority Certification:

To restore your Prescriptive Authority Certification, you must:

  1. Complete an Application for Restoration of Certification in Prescriptive Authority form available in the Forms & Resources area of ROSS The completed application must be emailed as a PDF document to ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger.
  1. Provide evidence of PharmaNet Access(see Prescriptive Authority section below) for your primary place of practice. Evidence must be uploaded on ROSS > Qualifications tab.

Please notify ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger once you have uploaded the evidence.

  1. Upload to ROSS evidence of at least ten (10) hours of approved Category F continuing education credits(see Quality Assurance section here for information about CE) completed in the two (2) years immediately prior to the date of this application.

Please notify ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger once you have uploaded your CE.

Restoring All Other Certifications:

  • Complete the Application for Restoration of Certification form available in the Forms & Resources area of ROSS . The completed application must be emailed as a PDF document to ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger.

Please use the Supervised Practice Tracking Form to track the supervised practice requirement. The form is available in the Forms & Resources area of ROSS . Once completed, the form must be uploaded on ROSS > “Continuing Education (CE)” tab. Please notify ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger once you have uploaded the form.

  • Update your CE information on ROSS  >”Continuing Education (CE)” tab prior to submitting an Application for Restoration of Certification.

Processing and Notification of Result:

  • Registrants will be notified when the application fee has been posted in the Invoices & Receipts area of ROSS .
  • Complete applications will be reviewed by the College as they are received, and the registrant will be notified if further information is required.
  • Processing typically takes 5-10 business days upon receipt of all materials and payment of the application fee. In times of increased business volumes such as the registration renewal period, a longer timeline for processing should be expected.
  • If approved, registrants will be notified of their certification by letter, which must be received before the registrant performs the corresponding procedure(s) on patients.
  • If not approved, the registrant will be provided with next steps in proceeding with restoration of their certification.

Acupuncture

A naturopathic physician certified in Acupuncture is not permitted to delegate this activity to any other person. It is professional misconduct to delegate any restricted activity, including this procedure

Certification Requirements

In order to apply for certification in Acupuncture, naturopathic physicians must:

  1. Have the status of full registrant under the College Bylaws;
  1. Possess a current qualification in Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS); and
  1. Provide Evidence of the completion of a Naturopathic Medical/Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture program that includes a minimum of 50 hours of supervised clinical training by a licensed acupuncturist or practitioner authorized by the College; and evidence of a minimum of 200 hours of study in Traditional Oriental Medicine, which must include:
    1. Syndrome differentiation and formulation of point prescriptions;
    2. Traditional acupuncture anatomy, physiology and pathology; and
    3. Acupuncture and Moxibustion techniques and point location.

OR

A naturopathic physician licensed in another province of Canada or another country who is qualified to practice in BC and is certified to practice acupuncture elsewhere, may automatically be granted certification to practice acupuncture in BC upon review of their records by the Quality Assurance Committee.

Maintaining Certification

To maintain valid certification, registrants must:

  • satisfy the College’s CE Requirements (see Category “E”); and
  • hold current qualification in:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and
    • Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).

Advanced Injection Therapies

A naturopathic physician who is duly qualified and licensed by the College may be certified to practice advanced injection therapies provided they have successfully completed all of the requirements listed below.

Stromal Vascular Fraction injections, bone marrow injections and related injections are NOT currently within the scope of practice. Stellate ganglion blocks may NOT be performed by any registrants. Registrants must NOT perform intra-vaginal injections and intra-cavernous injections.

A naturopathic physician certified in advanced injection therapies is not permitted to delegate those acts to any other person. It is professional misconduct to delegate any restricted activity, including these injection procedures.

Advanced Injection Therapies – Part A

Obtaining the Advanced Injection Therapies – Part A certification allows registrants to perform prolotherapy and related injections into the area of peripheral joints including the toes, ankles, knees, hips, fingers wrist, elbow and shoulder.

Registrants can use prolotherapy, platelet rich plasma (PRP) solutions, viscosupplement solutions (such as hyaluronic acid, synvisc and hylgan), corticosteroids, or any other solutions or therapies approved by the College. Devices used for these procedures must have an active medical device licence from Health Canada (search Health Canada’s Medical Devices Active Licence Listing by “Device name”).

Advanced Injection Therapies – Part B

Obtaining the Advanced Injection Therapies – Part B certification allows registrants to perform prolotherapy and related advanced injections on the axial skeleton including the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, lumbar-sacral, sacro-iliac, intercostal, and rib.

Registrants can use prolotherapy solutions, PRP solutions, viscosupplement solutions, (hyaluronic acid, synvisc and hylgan), corticosteroids and other therapies or solutions approved by the College. Devices used for these procedures must have an active medical device licence from Health Canada (search Health Canada’s Medical Devices Active Licence Listing by “Device name”).

Registrants who hold certification in Advanced Injection Therapy – Part B have met the requirements for certification in Advanced Injection Therapy – Part A and are not required to hold both certifications.

Certification Requirements

In order to apply for certification in Advanced Injection Therapies Part A or Part B, naturopathic physicians must:

  1. Have the status of full registrant under the College Bylaws;
  1. Be certified in Prescriptive Authority;
  1. Possess a current qualification in Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS); and
  1. Have satisfied the below training requirements for the corresponding certification.

Registrants applying for Advanced Injection Therapies Part B must hold certification in Advanced Injection Therapies Part A.

Approved Training for Advance Injection Therapies – Part A

Registrants may take the following courses to satisfy the training requirements for this certification:

  • Prolotherapy Module 1 and 2 (total of 3 days training) offered by the American Osteopathic Association of Prolotherapy Regenerative Medicine
  • Annual Conferenceoffered by the American Osteopathic Association of Prolotherapy Regenerative Medicine. Registrants may only apply for certification if they have completed both the Beginner’s Prolotherapy Course and the Annual Conference which includes practical training.
  • Module 1 Prolotherapy Intensive Courseoffered by Dr. Kevin Davison ND at Maui Regenerative Medicine
  • Advanced Injection Therapy Peripheral Skeleton(previously Advanced Injection Therapies – Part A) course offered by West Coast Injection Training Inc.
  • Advanced Injections Course: Module 1offered by Viatrexx
  • Advanced Injections Module Ioffered by the Naturopathic Academy of Regenerative Injection Therapy

Approved Training for Advance Injection Therapies – Part B

Registrants may take the following courses to satisfy the training requirements for this certification:

  • Module 2 Prolotherapy Intensive Courseoffered by Dr. Kevin Davison ND at Maui Regenerative Medicine
  • Advanced Injection Course Module 2offered by Viatrexx
  • Advanced Injections Module IIcourse offered by the Naturopathic Academy of Regenerative Injection Therapy
  • Advanced Injection Therapy Axial Skeleton(previously Advanced Injection Therapy: Part B Axial Skeleton) course offered by West Coast Injection Training Inc.

Co-requisites for Certification

  • To apply for and maintain certification in Advanced Injection Therapy – Part A or Part B, registrants must hold and maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority.
  • The administration of prolozone requires certification in both Ozone & Oxidative Therapies and Advanced Injection Therapies (Part A or Part B, as appropriate).
  • Other procedures that involve injections, including aesthetic procedures (cosmetic botulinum toxin, injectable fillers, and PRP injections to the face and other skin areas for aesthetic purposes), require certification in those specified aspects of practice. For more information, review the College’s Certification Requirements and the Standard of Practice: Injection Techniques.

Maintaining Certification

To maintain valid certification, registrants must:

  • satisfy the College’s CE Requirements (see Category “E”); and
  • maintain certification in Prescriptive;
  • hold current qualification in:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and
    • Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).

Aesthetic Procedures – Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin

Certification in cosmetic botulinum toxin authorizes a registrant to perform injections of prescription botulinum toxin into facial muscles for an aesthetic purpose.

Registrants must only use botulinum toxin substances that are approved by Health Canada and are included in the pharmacopeia of naturopathic physicians with Prescriptive Authority.

Injections of botulinum toxin for a therapeutic purpose, such as for TMJ syndrome, headaches/migraines, and hyperhidrosis, requires separate certification in botulinum toxin (non-aesthetic).

A naturopathic physician certified in Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin is not permitted to delegate this activity to any other person. It is professional misconduct to delegate any restricted activity, including this procedure.

Certification Requirements

In order to apply for certification in cosmetic botulinum toxin, naturopathic physicians must:

  1. Have the status of full registrant under the Bylaws;
  2. Be certified in Prescriptive Authority ;
  3. Possess a current qualification in Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS); and
  4. Have satisfied the below training requirements for this certification.

Approved Training for Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin

Registrants may take the following courses to satisfy the training requirements for this certification:

  • Level 1 and Level 2 Course in Aesthetic Medicine offered by the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine (AAAM)
  • Cosmetic Botulinum Courseoffered by Dr. Henry Ngai MD and Dr. Moon-Sang Choi ND at the Canadian Society of Skin Medicine
  • Cosmetic Neuromodulator Foundationscourse offered by Dr. Haneef Alibhai MD at the International Institute of Aesthetic Medicine. Note: any registrants who completed this course prior to March 2022, when it was offered at MD Cosmetic may still apply for certification
  • Level 1 – Advanced Anatomy Review & Intro to Botulinum Toxin & Dermal FillerAND Level 2 – Basic Botulinum Toxin: Aesthetic Upper Face & Therapeutic Pain Management courses offered by the Pacific Training Institute for Facial Aesthetics and Therapeutics. These courses are NOT approved for certification in botulinum toxin: medical/non-aesthetic.
  • The Botox Course (Cosmetic Botox Certification Course)offered by the ATC Aesthetics Training Canada Inc.
  • Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin Injectioncourse offered by Dr. David Cordero–Coronado, ND.

Co-requisites for Certification

To apply for and maintain certification in Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin, registrants must hold and maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority.

Maintaining Certification

To maintain valid certification, registrants must:

  • satisfy the College’s CE (see Category “E”); and
  • maintain certification in Prescriptive;
  • hold current in:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and
    • Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).

Aesthetic Procedures – Injectable Fillers

As a registrant, certification in injectable fillers authorizes you to perform injections for an aesthetic purpose. Injectable fillers used for these procedures must be approved by Health Canada.

Injectable Fillers – Provisional Level 1 & Level 1

Obtaining the Injectable Fillers – Provisional Level 1 certification or the Injectable Fillers – Level 1 certification allows registrants to inject fillers into the lips, cheeks, chin, marionettes, nasal folds (with cannula only) and jawline. All other areas are restricted.

Registrants in these levels can only use Health Canada approved hyaluronic acid injectable fillers and products used to modify or manage their effects, including hyaluronidase. 

Injectable Fillers – Provisional Level 2 & Level 2

Obtaining the Injectable Fillers – Provisional Level 2 certification or the Injectable Fillers – Level 2 certification allows registrants to inject fillers into areas covered by Level 1 (see above) in addition to the glabella, forehead, nose (bridge, tip and nasolabial junction), pyriform, nasal folds (with needle), tear troughs, eyelids, temples and body. 

Registrants can use any Health Canada approved injectable fillers (Hyaluronic acid, biostimulators, and threads) and products used to modify or manage their effects, including hyaluronidase.

You are prohibited from administering injectable fillers and products used to modify or manage their effects, including hyaluronidase, into any area other than those identified at your certification level. However, emergency use of hyaluronidase is not restricted to any area when performed by any ND with competency.

It is also prohibited to administer injectable fillers into the genitalia.

A naturopathic physician certified in injectable fillers is not permitted to delegate this activity to any other person. It is professional misconduct to delegate any restricted activity, including this procedure.

Certification Requirements

In order to apply for certification in injectable fillers, naturopathic physicians must:

  1. Have the status of full registrant under the  Bylaws;
  2. Be certified in Prescriptive Authority ;
  3. Possess a current qualification in Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS) and BLS (HCP) / CPR-HCP; and
  4. Have satisfied the level-specific requirements for this certification (see below).

Requirements for Provisional Level 1 & Level 1

To apply for Injectable Fillers – Provisional Level 1 certification, you must:

  1. Hold Certification in Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin;
  2. Complete six months of clinical practice using neuromodulators;
  3. Provide 100 patient records demonstrating treatments with Health Canada Approved hyaluronic acid injectable fillers in level 1 areas in separate clinical visits (using the Records Form)

The above 3 requirements must be met before completing the following training:

  1. Complete an approved Level 1 Injectable Filler certification course (see below).

You must complete the following requirements within two years of being granted the Injectable Fillers – Provisional Level 1 certification:

  1. Two years of clinical practice with hyaluronic acid injectable fillers in the level 1 areas only, all other areas are restricted;
  2. Provide 100 patient records demonstrating treatments with Health Canada Approved hyaluronic acid injectable fillers in level 1 areas in separate clinical visits (using the Records Form);
  3. A yearly peer review by a registrant certified in the same level or higher; and
  4. Complete the prescribed safety course every two years from the date of being granted Provisional Level 1 Injectable Filler certification.

You must provide the College with documented evidence of meeting all the above requirements to be granted the Injectable Fillers – Level 1 certification.

Requirements for Provisional Level 2 & Level 2

To apply for Injectable Fillers – Provisional Level 2 certification, you must:

  1. Have met all the level 1 requirements;
  2. Complete an approved Level 2 Injectable Filler certification course (see below).
  3. Provide 100 patient records demonstrating treatments with Health Canada Approved hyaluronic acid injectable fillers in level 2 areas in separate clinical visits (using the Records Form);

You must complete the following requirements within two years of being granted the Injectable Fillers – Provisional Level 2 certification:

  1. Two years of clinical practice with all types of injectable fillers in level 2 areas;
  2. Registrants are able to utilize any Health Canada approved injectable fillers (Hyaluronic acid, Biostimulators, and threads);
  3. Provide 100 patient records demonstrating treatments in the level 2 areas in separate clinical visits ((using the Records Form);
  4. Yearly peer review by a registrant certified in the same level or higher; and
  5. Complete the prescribed safety course every two years from the date of being granted Provisional Level 2 Injectable Filler certification.

Registrants must provide the College with documented evidence of meeting all of the above requirements to be granted the Injectable Fillers – Level 2 certification.

Approved Training for Injectable Fillers – Provisional Level 1

To maintain valid certification, registrants must:

  • satisfy the College’s CE Requirements (see Category “E”); and

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and
    • Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).

In addition to the above, provisional certification holders must complete:

  • A yearly peer review by a registrant certified in the same level or higher; and
  • A prescribed safety course every two years from the date of being granted certification.

Aesthetic Procedures – PRP Injections to the Face and Other Skin Areas for Aesthetic purposes

Certification in PRP injections to the face and other skin areas for aesthetic purposes authorizes a registrant to perform injections of platelet rich plasma (PRP) immediately below the dermis of the face, neck, scalp, and hands for aesthetic purposes.

Devices used for these procedures must have an active medical device license from Health Canada (search Health Canada’s Medical Devices Active Licence Listing by “Device name”).

Injection of PRP for a therapeutic purpose, including injections in joints, ligaments, and tendons, requires certification in Advanced Injection Therapies.

A naturopathic physician certified in PRP Injections to the Face and Other Skin Areas is not permitted to delegate this activity to any other person. It is professional misconduct to delegate any restricted activity, including this procedure.

Certification Requirements

In order to apply for certification in PRP injections to the face and other skin areas for aesthetic purposes, naturopathic physicians must:

  1. Have the status of full registrant under the Bylaws;
  2. Be certified in Prescriptive Authority;
  3. Possess a current qualification in Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS); and
  4. Have satisfied the below training requirements for this certification.

Approved Training for PRP Injections to the Face and Other Skin Areas for aesthetic Purposes

  • maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority;
  • hold current qualification in:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and
    • Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).

Botulinum Toxin: Medical / Non-COSMETIC

Certification in botulinum toxin: medical/non-aesthetic authorizes a registrant to perform injections of botulinum toxin for medical/non-aesthetic purposes, including temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome, headaches, migraines, and hyperhidrosis.

While registrants are permitted to treat a variety of areas, they must ensure that they are appropriately trained and competent to perform injections prior to initiating any treatment.

Registrants must only use botulinum toxin substances that are approved by Health Canada and are included in the pharmacopeia of naturopathic physicians with Prescriptive Authority.

Registrants are prohibited from injecting intra-ocular muscles.

A naturopathic physician certified in Botulinum Toxin Medical/Non-Aesthetic is not permitted to delegate this activity to any other person. It is professional misconduct to delegate any restricted activity, including this procedure.

Certification Requirements

In order to apply for certification in botulinum toxin: medical/non-aesthetic, naturopathic physicians must

  1. Have the status of full registrant under the Bylaws;
  2. Be certified in Prescriptive Authority;
  3. Possess a current qualification in Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS); and

    Have satisfied the below training requirements for this certification.

    Approved Training for Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin

    Registrants must complete an approved training using botulinum toxin to satisfy the training requirements for certification in botulinum toxin: medical/non-aesthetic.

    Courses approved for certification in Aesthetic Procedures – Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin may satisfy the fundamentals of botulinum toxin injections training requirement. Registrants who have previously completed that training, may satisfy the training requirements for certification in botulinum toxin: medical/non-aesthetic by completing an additional one-day (8 hour) botulinum toxin injections course focused on medical/non-aesthetic applications, with at least four hours of hands-on/practical training.

    The following courses have been approved as training for certification in botulinum toxin: medical/non-aesthetic:

    • Therapeutic Applications of Neuromodulators offered by the International Institute of Aesthetic Medicine

    Pre-requisite course: Cosmetic Neuromodulator Foundations Day One offered by the International Institute of Aesthetic Medicine

    • Botulinum Toxin: Non-Aesthetic Certification Course offered by Dr. Cordero-Coronado, ND
    • Botulinum Toxin: Non-Aesthetic Certification Course offered by Dr. Haneef Alibhai MD at MD Cosmetic.

    Pre-requisite course: Botulinum Toxin Level 1 offered by Dr. Haneef Alibhai MD at MD Cosmetic.

    NOTE: The Botulinum Toxin: Non-Aesthetic Certification Course and the Botulinum Toxin Level 1 course offered by Dr. Haneef Alibhai MD at MD Cosmetic are no longer available. If registrants completed these courses prior to March 2022, you may apply for certification.

    Co-requisites for Certification

    To apply for and maintain certification in botulinum toxin: medical/non-aesthetic, registrants must hold and maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority.

    Maintaining Certification

    To maintain valid certification, registrants must:

    • satisfy the College’s CE Requirements (see Category “E”); and
    • maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority;
    • hold current qualification in:
      • Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and
      • Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).

    Immunization

    Certification in Immunization authorizes a registrant to prescribe and administer vaccines.

    Registrants must hold certification in Immunization and Prescriptive Authority prior to prescribing or administering vaccines. Registrants must follow decision support tools established by the BC Centre for Disease Control when administering vaccines.

    Naturopathic physicians only compound, dispense, or administer immunoprophylactic agents identified by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

    Registrants must not administer an immunization to a child under five (5) years old.

    1. Have satisfied the below training requirements for this certification.

    Approved Training for Immunization

    Approved Training:

    • Immunization Competency Course for RNs and RPNs offered by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). Click here to access the course.

    Registrants who complete the Immunization Competency Course for RNs and RPNs or the Immunization Competency Course for Pharmacists and Other Health Professionals are eligible to claim 15 hours of continuing education credits under Category F – Prescribing Authority.

    Co-requisites for Certification

    To apply for and maintain certification in Immunization, registrants must hold and maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority.

    Maintaining Certification

    To maintain valid certification, registrants must:

    • satisfy the College’s CE Requirements (see Category “E”); and
    • maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority;
    • hold current qualification in:
    1. Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and
    1. Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).

    Intrauterine Device (IUD) Insertion & Removal

    A naturopathic physician who is duly qualified and licensed by the College can become certified to practice Intrauterine Device (IUD) Insertions and removals provided they have successfully completed all the necessary requirements for certification.

    A naturopathic physician certified in Intrauterine Device (IUD) Insertion & Removal is not permitted to delegate this activity to any other person. It is professional misconduct to delegate any restricted activity, including this procedure.

    In order to apply for certification in Intrauterine Device (IUD) Insertions, naturopathic physicians must:

    1. Have the status of full registrant under the Bylaws;
    1. Be certified in Prescriptive Authority;
    1. Possess a current qualification in Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS);
    1. Have a minimum of three (3) years clinical experience;
    1. Have satisfied one of theory training options for this certification (see below);
    1. Have satisfied one of the practical training options for this certification (see below); and
    1. Have completed and provided the IUD Checklist and the IUD Competency forms to the College.

    Approved Theory Training for Intrauterine Device (IUD) Insertion & Removal

    You may take any of the following courses to satisfy the theory training requirement for this certification:

    • Completion of the online modules of the Intrauterine Contraception Insertion Preceptorship program offered by the Society of Gynecologists’ and Obstetricians of Canada
    • Completion of Contraception and Intrauterine Devices Theory – A Didactic Exploration of Birth Control Options for Women offered by Integrative Reproductive Care Inc.

    Approved Theory Training for Intrauterine Device (IUD) Insertion & Removal

    You may complete any of the following to satisfy the practical training requirement for this certification:

    • Precepting training at the BC Women’s Hospital (Willow Women’s Clinic) in Vancouver, BC
    • Practical Training in IUD Placement and Removals course (Integrative Reproductive Care Inc.)

    Co-requisites for Certification

    To apply for and maintain certification in Intrauterine Device (IUD) Insertions, registrants must hold and maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority.

    Maintaining Certification

    To maintain valid certification, registrants must:

    • satisfy the College’s CE Requirements (see Category “E”); and
    • maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority;
    • hold current qualification in:
    1. Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and
    2. Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).
    • perform a minimum of 12 IUD insertions annually. These 12 annual insertions can be included as part of the 50 treatments used for the Category E currency model.

    IV Therapy and IV & Chelation Therapies

    A licensed naturopathic physician in British Columbia can be certified to perform IV Therapy or IV & Chelation Therapies if they have fulfilled all the requirements for the particular certification.

    Registrants who hold certification in IV & Chelation Therapies have met the requirements for certification in IV Therapy and are not required to hold both certifications.

    A naturopathic physician certified in IV Therapy or IV & Chelation Therapies is not permitted to delegate these activities to any other person. It is professional misconduct to delegate any restricted activity, including these procedures.

    Certification Requirements

    In order to apply for certification in IV Therapy, naturopathic physicians must:

    1. Have the status of full registrant the Bylaws;
    1. Be certified in Prescriptive Authority;
    1. Possess a current qualification in Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS); and
    1. Have satisfied the below training requirements for the corresponding certification.

    Registrants applying for IV & Chelation Therapies must hold certification in IV Therapy.

    Approved Training for IV Therapy

    You may take any of the following courses to satisfy the training requirements for this certification:

    • IVIT Certification Course offered by Dr. Eric Marsden, ND and Dr. Ruth Ann Baron, ND at the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors

    • IV Course offered by Dr. Stefan Kuprowsky, ND
    • IV Nutrient Therapy Principles and Practice for Success offered by Dr. Felicia Deo, ND at The IV Health Centre
    • Parenteral Therapy course offered by the National University of Natural Medicine (available only for NUNM students)
    • BC IV Therapy Certification course offered by Ariel Jones, ND
    • IV Therapy (Intravenous Therapeutics) course offered by the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) – Boucher – (completed after Spring 2022)
    • IV Certification Course offed by Infusion Rx.
    • Fundamentals and Clinical Applications of IV Nutrient Therapies” offered by International IV Nutritional Therapy for Physicians (IIVNTP).

    Approved Training for IV & Chelation Therapies

    You may take any of the following courses to satisfy the training requirements for this certification:

    • IV Chelation (Heavy Metal Detox) offered by Dr. Michael Prytula at ND, NaturoMedic TM
    • Chelation Course offered by Dr. Stefan Kuprowsky, ND

    Co-requisites for Certification

    To apply for and maintain certification in IV Therapy or IV & Chelation Therapies, registrants must hold and maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority.

    Maintaining Certification

    To maintain valid certification, registrants must:

    • satisfy the College’s CE Requirements (see Category “E”); and
    • maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority;
    • hold current qualification in:
    1. Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and

    Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).

    Restoring IV Therapy Certification from IV & Chelation Therapies Certification

    Those with IV & Chelation Therapies Certification may restore their IV Therapy Certification by completing this application (CNPBC-ApplicationforRestoringIVCertificationfromIVChelation-06122023.pdf) form should they no longer wish to provide chelation therapies as part of their practice.

    Ozone & Oxidative Therapies

    A naturopathic physician licensed by the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia may obtain certification to practice Ozone & Oxidative Therapies upon completing all certification requirements.

    Ozone & Oxidative Therapies include all therapies involving ozone, hydrogen peroxide, intravenous (IV) ultraviolet therapy, and other invasive oxidative therapies.

    A naturopathic physician certified in Ozone & Oxidative Therapies is not permitted to delegate these activities to any other person. It is professional misconduct to delegate any restricted activity, including these procedures.

    Certification Requirements

    In order to apply for certification in Ozone & Oxidative Therapies, naturopathic physicians must:

    1. Have the status of full registrant under the Bylaws;
    2. Be certified in Prescriptive Authority;
    3. Possess a current qualification in Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS); and
    4. Have completed one of the below courses.

    Approved Training for Ozone & Oxidative Therapies

    Registrants may take the following courses to satisfy the training requirements for this certification:

    • 2-day Oxidative Therapies course (IV Ozone, Hydrogen Peroxide & UVBI) offered by Dr. Prytula, ND at NaturoMedic TM
    • 2-day Ozone Therapy Certification Course offered by Dr. Bryan Rade, ND at East Coast Naturopathic Clinic
    • 2-day Certified Ozone and Oxidative Therapies Course (Introduction to Bio-Oxidative Medicine Skills – Ozone, H2O2, UVBI and Advanced Bio-Oxidative Medicine Skills – Prolozone) offered by Dr. Christoph Kind ND, Dr. Hal Brown ND and Dr. Jonathon Berghamer ND at Naturopathic Academy of Regenerative Injection Therapy
    • 2-day Ozone Therapy: Comprehensive Foundations offered by Dr. Caleb Ng, ND at West Coast Center for Regenerative Medicine (previously One Living Physician Services)

    Co-requisites for Certification

    • To apply for and maintain certification in Ozone & Oxidative Therapies, registrants must hold and maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority.
    • The administration of prolozone requires certification in both Ozone & Oxidative Therapies and Advanced Injection Therapies (Part A or Part B, as appropriate).
    • Certification in IV Therapy or IV & Chelation Therapies is required for those ozone and oxidative therapies that require IV administration.

    Maintaining Certification

    To maintain valid certification, registrants must:

    • satisfy the College’s CE Requirements (see Category “E”); and
    • maintain certification in Prescriptive Authority;
    • hold current qualification in:
      • Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and
      • Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).

    Prescriptive Authority

    Registrants who hold certification in Prescriptive Authority must comply with the BC Naturopathic Physicians Regulation and the College’s Scope of Practice for Naturopathic Physicians – Standards, Limits and Conditions for Prescribing Dispensing and Compounding Drugs.

    A naturopathic doctor certified in Prescriptive Authority is not permitted to delegate this activity to any other person. It is professional misconduct to delegate any restricted activity, including prescribing.

    Certification Requirements

    To be certified in Prescriptive Authority, you must:

    1. have the status of full registrant under the Bylaws;
    2. successfully complete and pass The Canadian Therapeutics and Prescribing Course for Naturopathic Doctors offered by Therapeutics Collaboration Education;
    3. Complete the following:
      • complete and pass the examination from Therapeutics Collaboration Education for The Canadian Therapeutics and Prescribing Couse for Naturopathic Doctors– administered by CCNM-Boucher;

    OR

      • complete and pass the examination from Therapeutics Collaboration Education for The Canadian Therapeutics and Prescribing Couse for Naturopathic Doctors– administered by CONO AND complete and pass the Jurisprudence Pharmacy Exam in BC – administered by CCNM-Boucher;
    1. submit your application within 24 months of completing the aforementioned exam;
    2. hold current Naturopathic Advanced Life Support certification; and
    3. provide evidence of PharmaNet access for your primary place of practice. Please allow sufficient time for setting up PharmaNet access through PRIME. You can contact PRIME Support to inquire about their processing timeline.

    IMPORTANT Registrants who have completed the required prescribing exam/course are not permitted to prescribe in BC until they obtain a confirmation letter from the College approving their certification in prescriptive authority after providing the required application requirements, including evidence of PharmaNet Access.

    Maintaining Certification

    To maintain valid certification, registrants must:

    • satisfy the College’s CE Requirements (see Category “F”); and
    • maintain PRIME/PharmaNet access;
    • hold current qualification in:
      • Basic Life Support (BLS) for HCP, or CPR for HCP with AED; and
      • Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS).

    PRIME/PharmaNet Access

    As of November 15, 2023, PharmaNet access will be a condition to gaining, renewing, or restoring certification in Prescriptive Authority.

    Steps for Obtaining PharmaNet Access

    1. Set up your User Account with PRIME. This step requires your BC Services card. PRIME is a prerequisite for setting up your PharmaNet access; your PharmaNet software vendor requires your PRIME approval to set up your access.
    2. Register your site:
      1. If you are in a clinic with other providers who have PharmaNet access, check with your clinic owner to determine if your site is already registered and the identity of PharmaNet Administrator.
      2. If you are an individual ND registering a site, review the BC PRIME website for more information about setting up a site, including identifying site signing authority and IT software vendors that may be available for contracting and organizational agreements.

    NOTE: A PharmaNet site is a physical location used to deliver in-person patient care. A PharmaNet software vendor must be set up at that location.

    Virtual Sites and Sites Outside of BC

    PharmaNet can only be accessed while the user is physically located in BC and clinics may not be roaming or entirely virtual in their setup.

    Evidence of PharmaNet Access

    Evidence of PharmaNet access is required for your primary place of practice. You may provide any of the following:

    • The initial email you received from your software vendor confirming your access to PharmaNet for your primary place of practice. You or your site administrator should have received this email when you first obtained PharmaNet access.
    • A copy of your PRIME enrollment renewal confirmation email. This option is available for registrants who have been enrolled with PRIME for over a year.
    • If you are unable to find either of these documents and you work in a clinic with multiple practitioners, you can also ask your office manager to provide you with a letter that confirms your access to PharmaNet. The letter should:
      • be dated,
      • include the office manager’s name, position, phone, and email
      • state the name of the clinic, location, your name, and that you currently have access to PharmaNet, and
      • be signed by the office manager.

    The evidence must be uploaded on ROSS > “Qualifications” tab. If you are in the process of applying for the Prescriptive Authority Certification, please information the registration team once you have uploaded the evidence on ROSS by emailing ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger.

    Ending PharmaNet Access

    If you need to end your access to PharmaNet following changes to your registration status, Prescriptive Authority Certification, or Practice setup/location, you can submit a request through PRIME .

    Issues with Personal Information Verification for PRIME/PharmaNet Enrolment

    PRIME uses personal information included on your BC Services Card (name, date of birth, etc.) If you are advised by PRIME Support that the personal information on your BC Services Card does not match with Ministry of Health records, please email ac.cbphcc@noitartsiger and we will assist you.

    PRIME Renewal

    PRIME enrolment must be renewed yearly. This renewal is separate from your annual registration renewal with the College. The latter runs from mid-November to December 31st of each year. Your PRIME enrolment renewal might fall on a different date.

    Course providers may apply to have their course considered for approval as a training option for a particular certification. Aesthetic course providers may contact the College for course requirements.

    Course providers may fill out and submit the Certification Course Application form to the College to have their course considered.

    Once approved, courses will be listed as a training option on the certification page on the College’s website.
