Supporting Safe, Patient–Centred Practice: Understanding the College’s New Guidance on Draping
The College’s new guidance on draping provides clear expectations for all licensees to support safe, respectful patient care. The guidance is intended to help licensees apply professional judgement in practice while supporting consistent approaches to draping across professions.
Draping is an important part of patient care and can affect a patient’s privacy, dignity, comfort, and safety. The guidance addresses key expectations such as obtaining express consent, communicating with patients, maintaining privacy and dignity, and maintaining professional boundaries. Guidance documents are regulatory documents developed to clarify expectations for licensees in specific areas or aspects of practice. They provide direction on matters associated with Scope of Practice, Professional Standards, and Clinical Practice Standards.
Guidance documents are incorporated into Professional Standard: Scope of Practice, Principle 1.1, and are therefore enforceable under the College Bylaws.
