Home 5 College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC 5 Celebrating Day 1 of the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC

Jun 28, 2024

Today, the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC) has officially formed through the amalgamation of the following colleges:

  • College of Chiropractors of BC
  • College of Massage Therapists of BC
  • College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC
  • College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists

The College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC now regulates:

  • acupuncturists
  • chiropractors
  • massage therapists
  • naturopathic physicians
  • traditional Chinese medicine practitioners

This is an amalgamation of regulatory functions: each regulated health profession continues to have a distinct scope of practice and distinct standards, policies, and quality assurance program.

Why did we amalgamate?

This amalgamation is part of the Ministry of Health’s multi-year initiative to modernize BC’s health profession regulatory framework.

What’s changed due to the amalgamation

What’s stayed the same

  • The mandate to regulate in the public interest
  • Standards of practice for each regulated health professional
  • Codes of conduct/ethics
  • Registration/renewal requirements
  • The complaint process

One public register

A single public register has been created of all health professionals regulated by the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC.

The story of our brand

We are honoured to have had Knowledge Keeper from the Musqueam Nation and artist, Sulksun, share in the development of our new branding. The Indigenous Engagement Group who provided valuable feedback to us about the amalgamation project, encouraged the College to engage with an Indigenous artist. Sulksun, a Knowledge Keeper for many regulatory health colleges, accepted the opportunity to collaborate on the brand.

Watch this video where he explains the important meaning behind the elements that make up the logo, including the inclusion of the twin sisters in the peaks of the North Shore mountains.
